Built in 1986, the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center serves as New York City’s major convention facility. It is named after the former United States New York Senator of the same name who was in office from 1957 to 1981. The Javits Center is one of the busiest convention centers in the United States, hosting events such as the New York International Auto Show and New York Comic Con. The convention center features a 45,000 square foot glass enclosed River Pavilion that overlooks the Hudson River. Other spaces at the Javits Center include a Special Events Hall, several Exhibition Halls, over 100 meeting rooms, and a full service state-of-the-art food court.

On the election night of November 8, 2016, Hillary Clinton and her supporters were gathering at the Javits Center to celebrate what would be the first female president in United State’s history. All of the major network broadcasts were being streamed onto a giant screen above stage. Celebrities and politicians alike appeared to make speeches and rally Clinton’s fervent supporters. All of these people came to the event to witness what was going to be one of the biggest triumphs for women in American history. Clinton even set up a literal glass ceiling in the Javits Center that she would shatter following her victory. What transpired next was nothing like a celebration though, no feelings of elation or triumph were had. Instead, thousands were left with the same harrowing empty feeling of loss. Donald Trump had easily won the presidency against all the pundits expectations. No glass ceiling would break that night, not even the glass panels of the exterior of the Javits Center.
